Early/Late Grateful, but grateful all the same!

I have to say that I am grateful for bloggers. You guys/gals. I am grateful for the internet where people share all kinds of things, their stories, their talents, their recipes, themselves. Over the past month or so I have tried recipes, gained inspiration from secondhand finds and learned new skills.

Yesterday I made Hedgehog Slice - thanks to Frog, Goose & Bear. Hedgehog used to be my most favorite sweet when I was a child. Despite this, I've never made it so when Emma posted the recipe the other day I just HAD to make it....and it was just as delicious as I remembered!

All weekend I have been crocheting Granny Squares - thanks to Craftyminx. Finding Craftyminx's Crochet School and following along has been wonderful. I've wanted to know how to crochet properly for such a long time - specifically so that I can make a proper crochet afghan with Granny Squares. I made one when I was ten. My best friend at the time and I taught ourselves. I still have mine and I love it, complete with it's myriad of mistakes.

This time I want to know how to do it properly and make something truly beautiful. I find that when I am really struggling as I have been lately I feel the need to create something beautiful as part of my healing. It really helped me after 9/11. My husband and I watched the events unfold live on television. I was working on a quilt wallhanging at the time and I found that the actual making of the quilt was very therapeutic and healing after witnessing such a traumatic event. So....I've decided to crochet a Granny Square afghan so that I have something beautiful to focus on.

I have big plans for these little babies!
They are so quick and easy to make. I have plans to make one for each of my children too, in their favorite colours.
I also gained inspiration from Cherie, who filled her house with flowers from the supermarket to give her something beautiful to look at despite the pain of loss. Yesterday I bought a $5 bunch of flowers from the fruit and vegetable market. They are colourful and sunny and make me smile when I look at them sitting on my kitchen table. They also remind me to think of Cherie and her family during this time....

So...I'm grateful for you people of the blogosphere. You inspire me.

  1. I love your crochet squares! I'm so into crochet, that I spend most of my money on wool, rather than going out. A true granny I must say! Keep it up - it looks great!
